PGY-2 Ultrasound Elective B

Goals
The fundamental goal of this elective is to provide an opportunity for performance improvement in POCUS.
Pre-requisites
PGY1 US Rotation, Advanced POCUS workshop.
Objectives
At the end of this elective, PGY2 residents will be able to: •Demonstrate a working knowledge of knobology on a standard ultrasound machine, including Doppler mode functions. •Describe the indications for obtaining the core applications (ACEP). •Demonstrate acquisition and interpretation of the standard views in the POCUS core applications (ACEP).
Course Calendar
Duration: 2-4 weeks. Monday-Friday: 830-1630.
Total anticipated hours per week (including study time): 60 hours.
No overnight or weekend call.

Educational Strategy:
- Theoretical foundations
a. Completion of all available EMsono modules.
- Practical scanning Performance goal: 75 scans/week. Total in 2 weeks: 150 scans. Applications: eFAST, GB, Renal, Aorta, Pelvic, Soft Tissue, Cardiac, Ocular, GI, MSK, RUSH/HIMAP, Triple Scan, USG procedures.
- Archive/Log
a. Educational scans are uploaded to Q-path. If positive, a note will be written in the chart.
b. Direct patient care scans are uploaded to Q-path and PACS. A note will always be written in the chart with macro: “Images saved in PACS.”
c. New Innovations All scans will be logged into New Innovations.
- Quality Assurance
Q-path forms need to be completed on the same day as the scan for continuous feedback on Q-path. Scans will be reviewed at bedside, at Sonohangout!, and on-line on Q-path.
- Sonohangout!
a. Discuss article/topic with the group. b. Review a minimum of 10 scans with the group.
SDOT
There will be a Direct Observation Test at the beginning of the first week and at the end of the 2nd week.
1st week: eFAST, Aorta, GB, Renal, Focused Cardiac.
2nd week: DVT, Ocular, RUSH. Grade: Fail/Competent/Master
Leave of Absence policy
All leave of absence will be requested in advance and granted by Dr. Freeman, Residency Program Director. No unexcused absences will be tolerated.
