- In this 2-week rotation, PGY1 residents will learn the basics of point-of-care ultrasound.
- Orientation to POCUS: Didactics (1 day), Hands-on (4 hours).
- As a result of this rotation, PGY1 residents will be able to:
- •Demonstrate basic knowledge of knobology (including power, gain, depth, zoom, freeze, save, measure), including B-mode/M-mode functions on a standard ultrasound machine.
- •Describe the indications for obtaining the 11 core applications (ACEP).
- •Demonstrate proficiency in the acquisition and interpretation of the standard views of the following core applications - eFAST, GB, Renal, Aorta, Pelvic, Soft Tissue, Cardiac.
- •Critically evaluate current EUS literature.
- •Demonstrate knowledge of the minimal imaging criteria used in the quality assurance process.
- a. Completion of eight EMsono modules: Practical scanning, eFAST, GB, Renal, Aorta, First Trimester, Soft Tissue, Cardiac. (www.emsono.com)
- b. Number of scans: 12 scans/shift X 9 shifts = 108 scans. Total: Performance and upload on Q-path of a minimum of 108 scans, by the last day of the rotation.
- c. Demonstrated proficiency in the following core applications: eFAST, GB, Renal, Aorta, Pelvic, Soft Tissue, Cardiac. SDOT: There will be a Direct Observation Test on the last day of the 2-week rotation. Applications: eFAST, Aorta, GB, Renal, Focused Cardiac. Grade: Fail/Competent/Master.
- d. Submission of an “Image of The Week” to the MiamiEMsono website.
Other Applications Multiple scans in the other 4 (of 12) core applications are strong encouraged.
